What is a pharmacist walk-in clinic?
In Alberta, pharmacists with Additional Prescribing Authorization can assess common health problems, order and interpret tests, prescribe treatment and renew prescriptions. Our walk-in clinic puts that service a few steps from the counter: walk in during opening hours, ask for the pharmacist, and you are seen in a private consultation room, not at the till. If you prefer a guaranteed time, book an assessment online instead; the service is the same.
What we can help with
- Minor ailments: sore throat, urinary tract infections, pink eye, cold sores, skin rashes and eczema, seasonal allergies, heartburn, headaches, and more. See the full list of conditions.
- Prescription renewals and adjustments for ongoing medications when you cannot get in to see your doctor.
- On-site testing for strep throat, UTI, COVID-19 and influenza, with results in minutes and $25 per test.
- Vaccines when a time is free, or book online to be sure.
- Emergency prescriptions if you have run out or left your medication at home.
- Advice on over-the-counter products, side effects and interactions, always free.
How a walk-in visit works
- Walk in during opening hours and tell our team what you need. No referral, and nothing to arrange beforehand.
- Short wait while the pharmacist finishes with the patient before you, usually under 15 minutes. Browse, take a seat, or step out and we will call you.
- Private assessment: your symptoms, history and medications, plus a quick test if it helps.
- Treatment or next steps: a prescription filled on the spot when appropriate, self-care advice, or a referral to a doctor.
- Your doctor is informed, so your record stays complete.
What it costs
Many pharmacist assessments and prescription renewals are covered by Alberta Health for Albertans with a valid health card. On-site tests are $25 each, and prescribed medications are billed to your drug plan as usual. We always tell you the cost before we start.
When to go elsewhere
Chest pain, trouble breathing, a severe allergic reaction, a high fever in a baby, or an injury needing stitches are emergencies: call 911 or go to the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital emergency department. For non-urgent concerns outside our scope, we help you find the right clinic, or call Health Link at 811.
All services follow Alberta College of Pharmacy standards and Alberta's regulated prescribing guidelines.
