Prescription transfers

Transfer your prescriptions

Switching pharmacies should be the easiest thing you do this week. Give us your name and your current pharmacy, and we transfer every prescription and your complete file, for you or your whole household, usually the same day.

Transferring prescriptions

What gets transferred

  • All your active prescriptions, including the refills remaining on each one.
  • Your complete pharmacy file: medication history, allergies, health conditions and prescriber details.
  • Your insurance and billing information, so your plan is billed directly from the first fill.
  • Your whole family if you like: children, parents and anyone you care for, in the same five minutes.

How to transfer

  1. Tell us who and where. Call (780) 538-0091, visit the pharmacy, or ask when you drop off your next prescription. We need your name, date of birth and the name of your current pharmacy; your Alberta Health Card and drug plan card if you have them handy.
  2. We do the rest. We contact your old pharmacy and request the transfer. Most are completed the same day, often within the hour.
  3. Pick up your next fill with us, or ask about free home delivery. We confirm when everything has arrived and go over your list with you.

Nothing is lost in the move

Refills transfer with the prescription, so you keep what is left on each one. Your doctor does not need to write anything new, and you do not have to tell your old pharmacy yourself; the transfer request takes care of it. If a prescription has no refills left, our prescribing pharmacist can often renew it right away.

Why people switch to Royal Oaks

  • Pharmacists who know you and take the time to answer questions.
  • Prescriptions in about 10 minutes, with online refills and free delivery.
  • More under one roof: prescribing pharmacists, a walk-in clinic, vaccines, testing, medication reviews and compliance packaging.

Will my prescriptions cost more?

No. Prescription prices, markups and dispensing fees are regulated in Alberta, so they are the same at Royal Oaks as at your previous pharmacy. We also look for the lowest-cost option your plan covers.

Questions

Do I have to tell my old pharmacy?

No. Once you ask us to transfer, we contact them directly. You do not need to call or visit.

Will I lose any refills?

No. Remaining refills move with each prescription. Only certain controlled medications cannot be transferred and need a new prescription; we tell you if that applies.

Can I transfer prescriptions for my children or parents?

Yes. Tell us who you are transferring and we handle the whole family at once. For another adult, we may ask for their consent.

How long does a transfer take?

About five minutes of your time. The transfer itself is usually completed the same day, often within the hour, and we let you know when it is done.
